The ice maker will not function normally while this fault is active. Diagnosing the issue starts with checking voltage at main PCB connector CN90 pin 4 and measuring resistance at pins 8 and 4.

A power reset may temporarily clear the R-1 code from the display, but it will return as soon as the control board reads the sensor circuit again and detects the same fault condition. The underlying cause, whether a failed sensor, broken wire, or loose connector, must be physically repaired before the code will stay cleared. Resetting without repairing is not a lasting fix.
