A power cycle or reset may temporarily clear the R-1 display, but the code will return if the underlying fault is still present. The fan motor circuit is monitored continuously, so any ongoing wiring issue or motor failure will cause the error to reappear shortly after the unit restarts. The fault needs to be diagnosed and repaired for the code to stay cleared.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there may be no parts cost at all. You can manually defrost the fresh food section to clear ice from the fan, and you can inspect and reseat the motor wiring harness connector without special tools. If the motor itself has failed or the main PCB is not producing the correct output voltage, those repairs are more involved and may require a technician with a multimeter and refrigeration experience.

Operating the refrigerator with an active R-1 code means the fresh food compartment fan may not be running properly, which will result in poor or uneven cooling in that section. Food safety could be compromised if temperatures rise above safe levels. It is best to address the fault promptly and monitor food temperatures in the meantime.
