Samsung Refrigerator Error Code R-10 (Pantry-Damper-Heater Error)

The R-10 code means the refrigerator's main control board has detected an electrical fault in the pantry room damper heater circuit. This heater prevents frost from blocking the damper that controls airflow into the pantry compartment. The fault can be a disconnection, short circuit, open heater element, failed bimetal thermal cutout, or a wiring contact problem. The specific nature of the fault is determined by measuring resistance across the Black and Brown wires at the main PCB connector CN91.

A power reset may temporarily clear the R-10 code from the display, but the error will return if the underlying electrical fault in the damper heater circuit is not repaired. Because the fault is hardware-based, involving resistance values outside the normal range, the control board will detect it again during normal operation. A reset alone is not a fix.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there may be no parts cost at all, with any expense limited to a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150. If the damper heater assembly or bimetal component needs replacement, parts costs generally range from $30 to $100 depending on the model, plus labor if a technician is performing the repair. Wire harness repairs vary based on the extent of the damage.

Start by disconnecting the CN91 connector on the main PCB and measuring resistance between the Black and Brown wires. A correct reading is approximately 145 ohms within plus or minus 7 percent. A reading of 0 ohms means the heater is shorted and must be replaced. An infinite reading points to an open wire, a failed bimetal thermal cutout, or a broken heater element, all of which require physical inspection and likely part replacement.

A shorted heater (0 ohm reading) poses a more immediate concern than an open circuit and should be addressed promptly to avoid any risk of electrical damage to the control board. An open circuit condition means the damper area is simply losing its frost protection, which can lead to airflow issues and improper pantry temperatures over time. Continued use is not recommended until the fault is diagnosed and corrected.
