The main PCB monitors the resistance of this heater and triggers the code when the circuit falls outside acceptable parameters. The damper heater prevents frost from locking the pantry air damper in place, so this fault can affect pantry temperature control.

A power reset may temporarily clear the code from the display, but R-10 will return as soon as the main PCB performs its next circuit check and detects the heater fault again. The underlying electrical or component fault must be repaired for the code to clear permanently. Resetting without repair is not a solution and may delay diagnosis.

If the repair requires only cleaning or reseating a connector, the cost may be minimal beyond your time. Replacing a damper heater assembly typically ranges from roughly 30 to 80 dollars for the part, with additional labor costs if a technician is hired. If the wiring harness is damaged, parts and labor costs can vary depending on the extent of the repair needed.

Begin by disconnecting connector CN91 from the main PCB and using a multimeter to measure resistance between the Black and Brown wires leading to the damper heater. A properly functioning heater should read 145 ohms plus or minus 7%, which is approximately 135 to 155 ohms. A reading outside this range, a reading of zero, or an open infinite reading indicates a fault in the heater element or its wiring rather than the PCB itself.

The refrigerator will likely continue operating in other zones, but the pantry compartment may not maintain correct temperature without a functioning damper heater, since the damper flap could freeze in one position. There is no immediate electrical safety hazard from a failed open-circuit heater, but food stored in the pantry section may be at risk if temperatures become inconsistent. Prompt repair is recommended.
