The R-10 code signals a fault in the pantry room temperature sensor circuit. The main PCB has detected a sensor housing separation, wiring disconnection, short circuit, poor connector contact, or a temperature reading that falls outside the acceptable operating range. The control board monitors this sensor to regulate cooling in the pantry compartment, and when the signal is abnormal, it triggers this code.

A power reset may temporarily clear the code from the display, but if the underlying sensor circuit fault is still present, the R-10 code will return. The reset does not repair wiring, connectors, or a failed sensor. Clearing the code permanently requires identifying and correcting the root cause.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. If the fix is simply reseating a connector or repositioning a dislodged sensor, there may be no parts cost beyond a service call, which typically runs in the range of $75 to $150. Replacing the pantry temperature sensor itself generally adds $20 to $60 in parts. If the main PCB is at fault, board replacement can range from $150 to $350 or more depending on the model.

Begin by measuring the voltage between pins 8 and 9 on main PCB connector CN30. A normal reading falls between 1.0V and 4.5V. A reading outside that range confirms an active fault in the sensor circuit. From there, inspect the physical sensor mounting, the wiring harness for damage or shorts, and the connector itself for loose or corroded terminals.

The R-10 fault specifically affects the pantry compartment sensor, so the main refrigerator and freezer sections may continue operating normally. However, the pantry zone may not maintain its set temperature without a functioning sensor signal. Food stored in the pantry compartment could be at risk if cooling to that zone is compromised, so it is advisable to address the fault promptly.
