The R6 code indicates an F-FAN error related to the freezer compartment fan motor. The control board has detected a problem with the BLDC motor, which could be a feedback signal line fault, a wiring issue, or a failed motor. This fan is responsible for circulating cold air throughout the refrigerator, so the error can cause both compartments to lose cooling.

A power reset may temporarily clear the R6 code, but if the underlying fault remains, the error will return once the refrigerator attempts to run the freezer fan again. Resetting is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent or persistent, but it does not repair the root cause. The wiring, motor, and PCB connections should still be inspected.

Repair costs vary depending on the cause. If only the connector needs reseating or the wiring harness needs repair, costs are generally in the range of $75 to $150 for a service call. Without a functioning freezer fan, cold air cannot circulate properly, meaning food in both the freezer and fresh food compartments may reach unsafe temperatures.
