EC:02 is a card reader timeout error indicating that communication between the payment card reader and the washer's control board did not complete within the required time window. It appears on commercial Speed Queen washers equipped with card payment systems. The error can result from a bad card, a dirty reader, faulty wiring, or a failing card reader module.

A reset may temporarily clear the error code, but if the underlying cause is still present, the error will return the next time a card transaction is attempted. Resetting is not a fix on its own. The root cause, whether a bad card, dirty reader, or hardware fault, must be resolved to prevent the error from recurring.

If the fix is as simple as cleaning the card reader slot or using a different card, there is no parts cost involved. If the card reader module requires replacement, parts and labor costs can range from roughly $75 to $250 or more depending on the specific model and local labor rates. A control board replacement, if needed, would typically cost more.

Start by removing the card and reinserting it, or try a different payment card to rule out a card-specific issue. If the error persists, inspect the card reader slot for debris and clean it carefully. Check all wiring connections between the card reader and the control board for corrosion or loose pins.
