The diagnostic path for this error follows a logical sequence: wiring integrity first, then the sensor itself, and finally the control board. A disconnected, corroded, or broken wire harness connector at the sensor is the most common and easiest-to-confirm cause. If the wiring checks out, the thermistor itself may have drifted out of calibration or failed entirely, producing a resistance value the board cannot interpret as a valid temperature. Thermistors typically fail open or short, both of which result in out-of-range signals.

If both the wiring and the sensor test within acceptable parameters, the control board becomes the suspect. A faulty board may misread an otherwise valid sensor signal or fail to process it correctly. Board failures are less common than wiring or sensor issues but should be evaluated after the other components have been ruled out. Proper diagnosis requires checking the wiring harness for continuity and physical damage, testing the sensor's resistance, and comparing those readings against the specified range for the appliance.
