Viking Dishwasher Error Code E:02
No water fault
No water fault — during the water inlet step, no pulses are sensed from the water counter (flow meter); the dishwasher waits until a water signal is detected.

What E:02 means on a Viking dishwasher
The E:02 error code on a Viking dishwasher indicates a no-water fault. This code triggers during the water inlet phase of the wash cycle when the control board receives no pulse signals from the flow meter, also called the water counter. The flow meter is a sensor installed in the water supply line that generates electrical pulses as water passes through it. If the control board does not detect any pulses within the expected time window, it interprets this as a failure to fill and holds the cycle in a wait state until a water signal is detected or the fault is cleared.
The most common root causes fall into a few categories: water supply problems, component failures, and wiring issues. On the supply side, a closed shutoff valve, low household water pressure, or a kinked inlet hose can prevent water from reaching the valve entirely. The water inlet valve itself is a frequent failure point as well. If its solenoid coil has failed or its internal screen is clogged with mineral deposits, it will not open properly and no flow will reach the flow meter.
Beyond the mechanical components, E:02 can also result from electrical faults. A broken or disconnected wire in the harness between the flow meter and the control board will prevent pulse signals from reaching the board even if water is flowing normally. A failed flow meter that does not generate pulses, or a faulty control board that cannot process incoming signals, are also possible causes. Diagnosis should proceed from the simplest checks first, confirming water supply pressure and valve operation, before moving to electrical continuity testing of the harness and sensor.

Common causes of E:02
- 01
No or insufficient water supply
Wiring / connectionThe shutoff valve under the sink may be closed, or household water pressure may be too low for the inlet valve to open fully. Check that the supply valve is fully open and verify adequate water pressure at the connection point.
- 02
Clogged or failed water inlet valve
Part replacementThe inlet valve screen can become blocked with mineral scale or debris, restricting flow to the point where the flow meter detects nothing. The solenoid coil inside the valve can also burn out, preventing the valve from opening at all. A failed valve will need to be replaced.
- 03
Faulty flow meter
Part replacementThe flow meter generates electrical pulses as water passes through it, and if the sensor has failed internally, it will not send any signal to the control board even when water is flowing. Replacing the flow meter resolves this condition.
- 04
Cable harness wiring fault
Wiring / connectionA broken wire, corroded connector, or loose terminal in the harness between the flow meter and the control board can interrupt the pulse signal. Inspect the harness visually and test continuity with a multimeter along the relevant circuit.
- 05
Faulty control board
Part replacementIf the control board cannot process or receive the pulse signals from the flow meter, it will report E:02 even when all other components are functioning correctly. This is the least common cause and should be diagnosed only after all other components have been ruled out.
