What E:08 means on a Viking dishwasher
The E:08 error code on a Viking dishwasher indicates a communication fault between the main electronic control board and the external (display) electronic board. These two boards continuously exchange data during operation, and if that communication link is interrupted or lost, the dishwasher will halt and display E:08. The fault can be triggered by a break in the signal path at any point between the two boards, including the cable harness, connector sockets, or the boards themselves.
The most common physical causes involve the wiring harness that runs between the two boards. Connectors that are improperly seated, corroded, or damaged can intermittently break the communication signal. Vibration during normal wash cycles can also cause a marginal connection to fail over time. Inspecting each connector for secure seating, corrosion, bent pins, or chafed wiring is the recommended starting point before assuming either board has failed.
If the harness and connectors check out physically and electrically, the fault likely resides in one of the two electronic boards. Either the main control board or the display board may have a failed communication circuit, a damaged microprocessor, or a component failure that prevents proper data transmission. In these cases, component-level board testing or board replacement is required to resolve the error.

Common causes of E:08
- 01
Loose or improperly seated cable connector
Wiring / connectionThe harness connector between the main board and display board may have worked loose due to vibration or was never fully seated. Check each connector for a firm, click-locked fit.
- 02
Damaged or chafed wiring harness
Part replacementThe cable harness running between the two boards can develop breaks, pinches, or chafed insulation that interrupt the communication signal. Visually trace the harness for any visible damage.
- 03
Corroded or damaged connector socket
Part replacementMoisture inside the dishwasher can cause corrosion on the connector pins or socket contacts, increasing resistance and breaking the signal path. Inspect pins for greenish corrosion or physical deformation.
- 04
Failed display electronic board
Part replacementThe display board may have an internal component failure that prevents it from communicating with the main board. If wiring checks out, the display board is the next likely suspect.
- 05
Failed main electronic control board
Part replacementThe main control board itself can fail in a way that disrupts communication output to the display board. This is typically diagnosed after ruling out wiring faults and display board issues.
