Error code 4-5 means the dishwasher control has detected that the diverter disk in the sump is missing. The diverter disk is a round component that routes water between the lower spray arm and the upper turbo zone during a wash cycle. The dishwasher will not complete a cycle until the disk is confirmed to be properly installed. Accessing and inspecting the sump area is the required first step in diagnosing this code.

You should not continue running the dishwasher with this error active. Without a functioning diverter disk, water cannot be distributed correctly to all spray zones, meaning dishes will not be properly cleaned. Running cycles in this condition also puts unnecessary strain on the wash pump. Address the error before resuming normal use.

If the diverter disk simply needs to be reseated, the repair may cost nothing beyond your time. If the disk needs to be replaced, parts typically range from $15 to $50 depending on the model. If the diverter motor assembly has also failed, parts and labor costs can range from $100 to $250 or more when serviced by a technician.

Start by unplugging the dishwasher for safety, then remove the lower spray arm, turbo zone assembly, rear feed tube, and outlet cover to expose the sump. Check whether the round diverter disk is present and seated correctly. If it is missing or damaged, it will need to be replaced. If it is present but obstructed by debris, clear the obstruction, reseat the disk, and reassemble the components before testing.

A reset may temporarily clear the code from the display, but the error will return as soon as the dishwasher runs a cycle and the control checks for the diverter disk again. The underlying cause, a missing, dislodged, or damaged diverter disk, must be physically corrected before the fault code will stay clear.
