Code 10-1 means the control board has detected an electrical problem in the detergent dispenser circuit. This is typically an open circuit caused by a failed dispenser solenoid or a loose wiring connection. The solenoid is the component that physically opens the soap dispenser door during the wash cycle.

The dishwasher may still run a cycle, but the detergent dispenser will not open correctly, meaning your dishes will not be washed with soap. Running repeated cycles this way wastes water and electricity without cleaning results. This fault should be repaired before continuing regular use.

Disconnect power to the dishwasher first. Access the dispenser assembly by removing the inner door panel. Disconnect the solenoid wiring connector and set a multimeter to the resistance (ohms) setting. Touch the probes to the two solenoid terminals. A working solenoid will show a low resistance reading, typically in the range of a few hundred ohms, while a failed solenoid will show OL or infinite resistance, confirming it needs replacement.

Start by unplugging the dishwasher or turning off the circuit breaker, then access the dispenser assembly and inspect all wiring connectors in the dispenser circuit. Use a multimeter to test the dispenser solenoid for continuity. If the solenoid reads open (infinite resistance), replace it or the full dispenser assembly. If the solenoid tests good, trace the wiring harness for damage or loose connectors and repair any issues found.

If the repair is just reseating a loose connector, the cost is nothing beyond your time. A replacement dispenser solenoid or full dispenser assembly typically costs between $20 and $60 for the part.
