The FA code means there is a conflict between the flowmeter and the OWI (Optical Water Indicator) sensor. The flowmeter has detected that 3.4 liters of water entered the dishwasher, but the OWI sensor in the sump has not confirmed that water is present there. The dishwasher interprets this disagreement as an OWI defect and stops the cycle. The most common cause is a dirty or fouled sensor lens.

A reset may temporarily clear the FA code from the display, but it will not fix the underlying problem. If the OWI lens is still dirty or the sensor is defective, the code will return as soon as the dishwasher attempts to fill with water again. A proper repair of the sensor or its wiring is required for the fault to stay cleared.

If the fix is simply cleaning the OWI lens, there is no parts cost, though a service call to diagnose and clean it typically runs between $75 and $150 depending on your area. If the OWI sensor needs to be replaced, parts and labor combined generally range from $120 to $250. Wiring repairs fall somewhere in between depending on the extent of the damage.

Start by cleaning the OWI sensor lens located in the sump, as mineral scale and grease buildup are the most frequent cause of this fault. After cleaning, run a test by activating the water inlet for 10 seconds and then the wash pump for 10 seconds to see if the OWI signal is restored. If the error persists after a thorough cleaning, the OWI sensor itself likely needs to be replaced. Also check the wiring connector at the sensor for any corrosion or loose connections.

You should not continue running the dishwasher with an active FA fault. The control board halts operation specifically because it cannot confirm that water is in the correct location, and running the wash pump without confirmed water in the sump can damage the pump motor. Address the OWI sensor issue before resuming normal use.
