The E5 fault itself indicates that ignition did not complete, meaning the control system stopped the ignition attempt before gas could accumulate. The dryer will not heat, which prevents an unsafe condition from developing during normal operation. That said, any time a gas appliance shows ignition-related faults, the gas valve, connections, and burner components should be inspected promptly to ensure everything is in safe working order.
