The F9 code means the washer detected a significant load imbalance during the spin phase and reduced the spin speed or skipped spinning entirely to protect the machine. The built-in imbalance sensor triggered this response because uneven weight distribution in the drum exceeded safe limits. It is a protective fault, not always a sign of a broken component. Redistributing the laundry and running the Spin program again is the recommended first step.

The washer is safe to use after you address the imbalance. The F9 fault is actually the machine protecting itself by refusing to spin unsafely. However, if you repeatedly force spin cycles without redistributing the load, you risk accelerating wear on the drum bearings and suspension components over time. Resolve the root cause before resuming normal use.

If the fault is caused by load imbalance, there is no repair cost at all since redistributing the laundry resolves it. If the F9 error persists due to worn shock absorbers or suspension springs, parts and labor can range from roughly $100 to $300 depending on your location and the specific components needed. Drum bearing replacement is a more involved repair and can run $200 to $500 or more when professional labor is included.

Start by turning the washer off at the main switch, then turn it back on. Open the door and spread the laundry evenly around the drum, separating any items that have clumped together. Once the load is redistributed, select the Spin program and run it again. If the fault continues to appear with balanced loads, inspect the shock absorbers and suspension components for wear.

Turning the main switch off and back on will reset the fault display, but the error will return if the underlying load imbalance is not corrected before the next spin attempt. A reset alone is not a fix. You need to open the door, redistribute the wash, and then run the Spin program for the cycle to complete successfully.
