Error code 55 indicates the cooktop has detected a break or open-circuit fault in the RTD temperature sensor for the RF (radiant front) heating element. The RTD is a resistive sensor that should measure approximately 1000 ohms at room temperature. When the power board reads an open circuit instead of that expected resistance, it disables the element and displays code 55. The cooktop does this as a safety precaution to prevent an unmonitored element from overheating.

The affected heating element is disabled by the cooktop when code 55 is active, which prevents that specific burner from operating without temperature monitoring. While other elements on the cooktop may still function normally, you should not attempt to bypass the error or continue heavy use until the fault is resolved. Operating any appliance with an active sensor fault is not recommended, and the issue should be diagnosed and repaired promptly.
