HE stands for Hot Element and appears as a flashing indicator on the ESEC display after a cooking zone is turned off. It signals that the glass-ceramic surface is still hot enough to cause burns on contact. The indicator will continue to flash until the surface cools to a moderate temperature and then turns off automatically. No user action is needed other than keeping clear of the hot surface.

You should avoid touching the surface of any zone showing the HE indicator, as it is hot enough to cause burns. The cooktop is not in a fault state and the electronics are functioning normally. You can use other cooktop zones that are not displaying the HE warning, as long as you exercise caution around the hot area.

If the HE indicator is appearing abnormally, such as on unused zones or for unusually extended periods, the likely culprit is the ESEC control board. Control board replacement on Electrolux cooktops typically ranges in cost from $150 to $400 or more, depending on parts availability and labor rates in your area. A service call to diagnose the issue will generally add $75 to $150 on top of any parts and repair costs.

In most cases, the HE indicator does not need to be fixed because it is a normal safety feature. Simply wait for the cooktop surface to cool and the indicator will turn off on its own. Resetting the cooktop by cycling power will not clear the HE indicator because the indicator is driven by actual surface temperature, not a stored error code.
