What E66 means on a Electrolux washer
The E66 error code on an Electrolux washer indicates a heating element defect, specifically an incongruence detected between the antiboil sensors (antiboil 1 and antiboil 2) and the heating relay circuit. The antiboil system uses pressure switches to monitor water temperature indirectly by detecting steam or boiling conditions. When the control board detects a mismatch between the state reported by these antiboil pressure switches and the expected relay behavior for the heating circuit, it triggers E66 to protect the machine and load from overheating.
The fault has three primary origins: a failed or open-circuit heating element, a broken or disconnected cable in the heating element wiring harness, or a defective antiboil pressure switch. A heating element that has developed an internal break will interrupt the circuit, preventing current flow even when the relay closes. A damaged cable, corroded connector, or loose terminal in the wiring between the control board and the heating element produces the same open-circuit symptom. In either case, the control board cannot confirm normal heating operation and logs the fault.
Diagnosing E66 requires inspecting the heating element for continuity using a multimeter, checking the resistance of the element against expected values, and inspecting the full wiring harness from the element to the board for damage, burns, or disconnection. The antiboil pressure switch should also be tested, as a switch stuck in the wrong position creates the incongruence the board is reporting. Replacement of the heating element, the connecting cable, or the antiboil pressure switch resolves the fault depending on which component tests out of specification.

Common causes of E66
- 01
Failed heating element
Part replacementThe heating element has developed an internal break, creating an open circuit that the control board detects as a heating fault. Testing the element with a multimeter for continuity will confirm whether it has failed.
- 02
Broken or disconnected wiring cable
Part replacementThe cable connecting the heating element to the control board may be cut, corroded, or pulled loose from a connector. Visual inspection of the harness and terminal connections near the element will reveal damage.
- 03
Defective antiboil pressure switch
Part replacementThe antiboil pressure switch monitors for boiling or overheating conditions. If it is stuck in an incorrect position or has failed internally, it creates the incongruence between switch state and relay state that triggers E66.
- 04
Corroded or loose connector at the heating element
Wiring / connectionMoisture and heat can corrode the spade terminals at the heating element itself, increasing resistance or breaking contact entirely without the wire harness being otherwise damaged.
- 05
Burned or faulty heating relay on the control board
Part replacementIf the relay responsible for switching power to the heating element has failed open, the board cannot energize the element and the antiboil sensor state will appear inconsistent. This is the least common cause but should be considered if all other components test good.
