Sud LOC means the washer has detected too many suds inside the drum and has paused the cycle as a result. The machine's control system monitors conditions inside the drum and triggers this code when foam buildup reaches a level that interferes with spinning or draining. It is not typically a sign of a mechanical failure. The most common causes are using too much detergent or using a detergent not formulated for high-efficiency washers.

The washer is designed to pause and protect itself when Sud LOC appears, so continuing to force cycles while the error is active is not recommended. Excess suds can prevent proper rinsing, leaving detergent residue on clothes, and can also strain the drain pump over time. Run the rinse and spin cycle first and resolve the detergent issue before running another full wash.

In most cases, Sud LOC does not require any paid repairs at all, since it is caused by detergent misuse rather than a faulty component. If the error persists after correcting detergent type and dosage, a service technician may need to inspect the drain pump or pump filter, which could cost anywhere from $75 to $250 depending on whether parts are needed and local labor rates. Switching to a proper HE detergent at the correct dose is the first and often only step required.

Start by running a rinse and spin cycle to clear the excess suds from the drum. Once the suds have cleared, the machine should resume normal operation. For future loads, switch to an HE-rated detergent and reduce the amount used per wash. If the error keeps returning, clean the detergent dispenser drawer and run a drum clean cycle to remove any accumulated soap residue.

A power reset may clear the error code from the display, but it will not remove the suds from inside the drum. If you reset the machine and restart a cycle without addressing the foam, the code is likely to return. The correct approach is to run a rinse and spin cycle to physically clear the suds, then reset if needed before starting a new wash.
