Excess suds prevent the drum from spinning efficiently, can block water from draining properly, and may cause detergent residue to remain on fabrics after the cycle completes.

The most common trigger for Sud LOC is the use of too much detergent, or the use of a detergent not formulated for high-efficiency (HE) washing machines. Fisher & Paykel front-load and top-load washers are designed to operate with low-sudsing HE detergents. Standard or non-HE detergents produce significantly more foam, which the machine cannot process through its rinse and spin sequences without intervention. Soft water conditions can also amplify sudsing, meaning even a correct detergent dose may produce excess foam depending on local water chemistry.

When Sud LOC appears, the washer will typically attempt to resolve the issue by extending the rinse cycle or pausing before spin. The recommended first step is to run a rinse and spin cycle to clear the excess suds from the drum. If the error persists across multiple cycles or appears regularly, the root cause is almost certainly detergent type or dosage rather than a mechanical fault. Residual detergent buildup inside the drum or dispenser drawer from previous wash cycles can also contribute to recurring suds errors even when current detergent use appears correct.
