Frigidaire Dryer Error Code E24
Control NTC short circuit
Control NTC short circuit — the control thermistor or its wiring is shorted.
First step from the service manual
Remove wires from control thermistor. Measure resistance of thermistor. If reading is not 50K ohms (±10%), replace thermistor. If reading is within 50K (±10%), check wiring between thermistor and electronic control. If good, replace electronic control.
The complete diagnostic procedure includes additional test steps, resistance specifications, wiring diagram references, and component test points.

What E24 means on a Frigidaire dryer
The E24 error code on a Frigidaire dryer indicates a short circuit condition in the control NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) thermistor circuit. The control thermistor is a temperature-sensing component that changes its electrical resistance in response to temperature. The electronic control board reads this resistance to monitor temperatures during the drying cycle. When the control detects resistance that is too low (consistent with a shorted circuit), it triggers E24 and typically halts operation to prevent overheating or damage.
The control thermistor should measure approximately 50,000 ohms (50K ohms) at room temperature, with an acceptable tolerance of plus or minus 10%. A shorted thermistor will read significantly below this range, sometimes near zero ohms. A short can occur within the thermistor component itself due to internal failure, or it can result from damaged wiring in the harness connecting the thermistor to the control board, where two conductors make unintended contact.
Diagnosing E24 requires disconnecting the wires from the thermistor and measuring its resistance with a multimeter. If the reading falls outside the 50K ohm range, the thermistor has failed and must be replaced. If the thermistor reads correctly, the wiring harness between the thermistor and the electronic control board should be inspected for pinched, chafed, or melted insulation that could be causing a short. If the wiring checks out, the electronic control board itself may be interpreting the signal incorrectly and would need replacement.

Common causes of E24
- 01
Failed control thermistor
Part replacementThe thermistor itself has shorted internally, causing its resistance to fall well outside the required 50K ohm range. This is the most common cause and is confirmed by measuring resistance directly at the thermistor terminals after disconnecting the wiring.
- 02
Shorted wiring harness
Wiring / connectionThe wiring between the thermistor and the control board has been pinched, chafed, or heat-damaged, causing two conductors to contact each other and create a short. Inspect the full length of the harness for any visible damage or points where wires may be rubbing against the dryer cabinet.
- 03
Loose or corroded thermistor connector
Wiring / connectionA connector that has worked loose or developed corrosion can create abnormal resistance readings that the control interprets as a short. Check connector terminals at both the thermistor and the control board for moisture damage, corrosion, or pins that have backed out of the housing.
- 04
Faulty electronic control board
Part replacementIf the thermistor measures correctly at 50K ohms and the wiring harness shows no faults, the control board itself may be misreading the thermistor signal due to a failed input circuit on the board. Replacement of the electronic control is the next step in this scenario.
