Frigidaire Dryer Error Code E73

E73 indicates an open circuit has been detected in the Inlet Control Thermistor circuit. This thermistor monitors incoming air temperature and reports that data to the control board. When the board receives no valid signal from the thermistor, it displays E73. The fault points to either a defective thermistor or a break in the associated wiring.

A reset may temporarily clear the code from the display, but it will return if the underlying fault in the thermistor circuit has not been repaired. The control board continuously monitors the thermistor signal, so as soon as it detects the open circuit again, E73 will reappear. A permanent fix requires replacing the faulty thermistor or repairing the wiring.

If the thermistor itself is the cause, parts typically range from $15 to $40 depending on the specific model, and the repair is straightforward enough for a DIYer to complete without additional labor costs. If a professional technician is needed, expect total repair costs (parts and labor combined) in the range of $80 to $180. Wiring repairs are generally less expensive in parts but may require similar labor time to diagnose and fix properly.

A knowledgeable DIYer can diagnose and repair this fault with a basic multimeter. Start by locating the inlet control thermistor, disconnecting it, and checking its resistance. A properly functioning thermistor should read between 47K and 66K ohms at room temperature (68 to 77 degrees F). If the reading is infinite or far outside that range, replacing the thermistor is the fix. If the thermistor tests good, trace the wiring for breaks or loose connectors.

It is not advisable to continue operating the dryer with an active E73 code. The inlet control thermistor plays a role in temperature regulation, and running the dryer without accurate inlet temperature data could result in improper heating behavior. Discontinue use until the thermistor or wiring issue has been resolved.
