The dryer ran too long without completing its cycle, so the control board shut it down. This can be caused by a blocked exhaust vent, a defective thermistor, a bad contact sensor, or a faulty control board.

A reset may temporarily clear the EF3 code, but the error will return if the underlying problem is not corrected. If the vent is blocked or a sensor is defective, the dryer will simply time out again during the next cycle. Address the root cause before relying on a reset.

If the problem is a clogged vent, professional duct cleaning typically costs between $80 and $175 depending on the length of the duct run. Replacing a thermistor generally runs between $20 and $60 for the part, plus labor if you hire a technician. A new contact sensor or control board can cost more, with control boards often ranging from $100 to $250 or higher for the part alone.
