A restricted vent or failed thermostat can allow the dryer interior to overheat significantly, which is a fire hazard. The EF4 code exists specifically to warn you before a dangerous condition develops, so treat it as a required stop rather than an advisory.

If the fix is simply cleaning the exhaust duct, the cost is minimal, typically under $30 for tools or a professional duct cleaning service.
