What the F 03 error code actually means

The F 03 code means your Frigidaire dryer is running but not producing heat. The dryer's control board detected that the heating system is not working as expected. Clothes will tumble but will not dry properly until the cause is identified and fixed.

First diagnostic step
Touch the Stop/Clear pad to clear the F 03. Program the dry for a NORMAL CYCLE with HIGH HEAT and touch START. Measure the voltage drop across the terminals of relay RL 2 on the electronic control board. If the meter reads 240 VAC on electric models or 120 VAC on gas models, replace the electronic control board. If the meter reads zero, remove power from the dryer and disconnect the black wire (electric models) or orange wire (gas models) from the relay. Reconnect power and measure the voltage drop between red wire on the relay RL 2 to neutral. If the meter reads zero, the wire between the incoming line and relay RL 2 is open. If the meter reads 120 VAC, check the rest of the heating circuit as described in the troubleshooting section.

Questions people ask about F 03

What does F 03 mean on a Frigidaire dryer?
F 03 means the dryer's control system detected no heat in the heating circuit during operation. The electronic control board monitors heat output and sets this fault when a heating cycle runs without producing the expected heat. The code applies to both electric and gas Frigidaire dryer models, though the specific voltages and components involved differ between them.
Is it safe to keep using my dryer when F 03 appears?
The dryer will typically continue to tumble clothes without heat when F 03 is active, so there is not an immediate safety hazard from running the drum. However, continued operation without resolving the fault means clothes will not dry and the underlying electrical issue should be addressed promptly to avoid further component damage.
How much does it cost to repair a Frigidaire dryer with an F 03 error?
Repair costs vary depending on which component has failed. Replacing a thermal fuse is typically the least expensive repair, often in the range of $15 to $50 for the part. An electronic control board replacement is more costly, generally ranging from $100 to $300 or more for the part alone. Adding professional labor will increase the total cost, usually by $75 to $150 depending on the service provider.
Can I reset the F 03 code and will it stay cleared?
You can clear the F 03 code by pressing the Stop/Clear pad. However, the code will return if the underlying cause in the heating circuit is not repaired. Clearing the code is a starting point for diagnosis, not a fix. Running a Normal cycle with High Heat after clearing it is part of the recommended diagnostic procedure.
How do I fix the F 03 error on my Frigidaire dryer?
Fixing F 03 requires voltage testing at relay RL 2 on the electronic control board during a live high heat cycle. If the correct voltage is present at the relay but heat is not produced, the control board needs replacement. If no voltage is present, you must trace the supply wiring for an open connection and then inspect the rest of the heating circuit components such as the thermal fuse, heating element, or gas valve depending on your model type.
