Frigidaire Washer Error Code Err

The Err code on a Frigidaire washer is not a mechanical or electrical fault in the traditional sense. It is a control logic alert that appears when the cycle selector knob is rotated to a different position after a wash cycle has already been initiated and is actively running. The washer's control board monitors the position of the cycle selector input and compares it against the cycle that was locked in at the time the Start button was pressed. When the control detects a mismatch between the running cycle program and the current knob position, it displays Err to indicate that the attempted cycle change is invalid.

This behavior is by design. Once a cycle is started, the control board locks the selected program into memory and begins executing the corresponding sequence of fill, wash, rinse, and spin events. The cycle selector knob is only read at the moment the Start command is issued. Rotating the knob during operation does not update the running program, and the control board flags this input conflict rather than silently ignoring it or attempting a mid-cycle switch.

Because this is an operator input issue rather than a component failure, no parts replacement is typically required. The correct procedure is to press the Cancel button to terminate the active cycle, allow the machine to drain if necessary, rotate the knob to the desired cycle, and then press Start again. Skipping the Cancel step and simply turning the knob is what triggers the Err display in the first place.
