Frigidaire Washer Error Code F05
A problem with the keypad.
A problem with the keypad.
First step from the service manual
Disconnect the keypad ribbon from the control and reconnect. Try all keypad switches. If they do not function, clean the end of the ribbon with a soft cotton cloth. Reinstall ribbon and program washer. If code reoccurs, replace the touch pad.

What F05 means on a Frigidaire washer
The F05 error code on a Frigidaire washer indicates a problem with the keypad, also referred to as the touch pad or user interface panel. This component is responsible for registering all button inputs from the user and sending those signals through a ribbon cable to the main control board. When the control board cannot reliably detect keypad inputs, or detects a fault in that communication path, it triggers the F05 code and may prevent the washer from operating normally.
The most common root cause of this error is a loose, misaligned, or contaminated ribbon cable connection between the keypad and the control board. The ribbon cable is a flat, flexible connector that can work itself loose over time due to vibration from normal washer operation. Contamination such as detergent residue, moisture, or dust on the ribbon's contact end can interfere with the electrical signal transmission, causing intermittent or complete keypad failure.
Diagnosing F05 begins with disconnecting and firmly reseating the ribbon cable at the control board connection point. After reseating, all keypad switches should be tested individually. If the keys remain unresponsive after reseating, cleaning the contact end of the ribbon with a soft cotton cloth can remove oxidation or residue that is disrupting conductivity. If the error persists through these steps, the touch pad assembly itself has likely failed internally and will need to be replaced to restore normal washer function.

Common causes of F05
- 01
Loose Ribbon Cable Connection
Wiring / connectionThe flat ribbon cable connecting the keypad to the control board can work loose over time due to washer vibration. Disconnecting and firmly reseating the ribbon at both ends is the first step to resolving this error.
- 02
Contaminated Ribbon Cable Contacts
Wiring / connectionDetergent residue, moisture, or dust can build up on the contact end of the ribbon cable and block the electrical signal. Cleaning the ribbon end with a soft cotton cloth often restores proper conductivity.
- 03
Failed Touch Pad Assembly
Part replacementIf the ribbon cable is clean and properly seated but the keypad switches still do not respond, the touch pad itself has likely failed internally. Replacement of the touch pad assembly is required in this case.
- 04
Damaged Ribbon Cable
Part replacementPhysical creasing, tearing, or corrosion on the ribbon cable can cause an open or intermittent circuit that prevents keypad signals from reaching the control board. A visually inspected ribbon showing damage will need to be replaced.
- 05
Control Board Communication Fault
Part replacementIn less common cases, the control board's input port for the ribbon cable may be damaged or faulty, preventing it from reading keypad signals even when the keypad and ribbon are functioning correctly.
