Frigidaire Washer Error Code PAU

PAU is a status indicator that appears for two reasons. It displays when the washer door is open and needs to be closed before a cycle can start. It also alternates with the estimated remaining cycle time when a running cycle has been paused by the user.

PAU is not a fault code and does not indicate a safety hazard. The washer intentionally prevents operation when the door is open to keep water and mechanical components safely contained. Once the door is properly closed and latched, normal operation can resume.

If the issue is simply an open or unlatched door, there is no repair cost involved. If the door latch assembly needs to be replaced, parts and labor typically range from $75 to $200 depending on your location and service provider. A faulty door switch is generally a similar or slightly lower cost repair.

Close the washer door firmly until the latch clicks into place, then press the Start button. If the washer was paused mid-cycle, pressing Start will resume it. If PAU persists after the door is closed, check for clothing or debris blocking the door from latching fully, and inspect the door latch and switch for damage.

A reset is generally not necessary for PAU since it is a status indicator rather than a stored fault. Closing the door and pressing Start is the correct resolution. If the code persists after the door is closed, the issue is likely a mechanical or electrical problem with the door latch or switch that a reset will not fix.
