GE Dishwasher Error Code WASHING FLASHING

On GE Profile Performance dishwashers, the WASHING indicator light flashing is not an error code in the traditional sense. It is a status indication that signals the control board has received a START/RESET command and is actively executing a drain-and-reset sequence. When the START/RESET pad is pressed mid-cycle or at any point during operation, the control board initiates a timed drain cycle to purge water from the tub before the system resets to a standby state. This is a deliberate, programmed response built into the control logic of Profile Performance models.

The drain-and-reset sequence involves the drain pump motor activating to expel any standing water from the sump area. The control board manages this process autonomously, running the pump for a set duration before cutting power to the pump and resetting the cycle selector to a neutral state. During this entire process, the WASHING light flashes to inform the user that the dishwasher is still active and should not be interrupted or have the door opened abruptly.

This behavior is entirely normal and does not indicate a component failure or wiring fault. The flashing stops once the drain cycle completes and the control board finishes its reset routine. At that point, the dishwasher is ready to accept a new cycle selection. If the flashing continues well beyond a normal drain period of approximately 90 seconds to 2 minutes, that could point to a separate underlying issue such as a drain pump fault or a control board anomaly worth investigating further.
