The door board is the electronic module mounted in the door that controls the dispenser, display, and door-related functions. The main board attempted to communicate with the door board and received an invalid or no response, so it flagged the fault.

In most cases the refrigerator will continue to cool normally with code 0516 active, since the cooling system operates independently from the door board. However, dispenser functions, the door display, and door alarms may not work correctly. You can continue using the unit for food storage in the short term, but the fault should be diagnosed and repaired to restore full functionality and prevent any related issues from worsening.

Unplugging the refrigerator for several minutes will reset the control board and may temporarily clear code 0516. However, if the door board hardware fault is still present, the code will return shortly after power is restored.
