The F121 error code on a GE refrigerator indicates that one or more keys on the internal temperature control board are stuck or registering as continuously pressed. The internal temp board, sometimes referred to as the dispenser control board or fresh food temperature panel depending on the model, contains membrane-style or tactile button switches that communicate user input to the main control board. When any of these buttons remains in a depressed or shorted state for an extended period, the control system flags it as a fault and displays F121 to alert the technician or user.

This fault typically originates from physical damage to the keypad membrane, moisture intrusion behind the panel causing a short across the button contacts, or a failure within the control board itself that causes a button input signal to read as permanently active. In some cases, debris or food residue trapped beneath the keypad surface can apply constant pressure to a switch, mimicking a stuck key condition. The board's microcontroller monitors each input channel and triggers the F121 code when any channel remains active beyond its expected duration.

Because the fault is tied directly to the input interface of the temperature board, normal refrigerator operation and temperature regulation may be disrupted until the condition is resolved. Technicians should inspect the keypad surface for visible damage, warping, or contamination, and check whether the board itself is receiving moisture. If cleaning and drying do not resolve the fault, the internal temperature control board will likely require replacement.
