Error code 21 on a GE washer is a Max Fill fault, indicating the control has calculated that water volume into the tub has reached or exceeded 36.3 gallons. This limit exists to prevent overflow. The fault is often triggered by a pinched pressure tube, water trapped in the pressure tube, or low water supply pressure rather than an actual overfill condition.

You should not continue running the washer until the cause of error code 21 is identified. The fault is designed to stop operation before an overflow condition occurs, and running the machine with the fault present could result in water damage to the unit or your floor. Diagnose and resolve the pressure tube or water supply issue before resuming use.

Repair cost depends on the cause. If the fix is simply straightening a pinched pressure tube or clearing water from it, there may be no parts cost at all, and a service call fee of roughly $75 to $150 covers the diagnosis.
