Error code 6 on a GE washer means the control board detected an extended period of pressure readings near overflow levels, a condition called Critical Flood Level by Pressure. The machine interprets this as a risk of overflowing, which triggers a shutdown. The cause can be actual excess water from a stuck inlet valve or a false reading from a malfunctioning pressure sensor or a pinched pressure tube.

The error is designed as a safety feature to prevent actual flooding, so the machine stopping is the protection working as intended. If the washer truly overfilled due to a stuck inlet valve, there is a real risk of water on the floor if the machine is run again without addressing the valve. If the cause is a false sensor reading rather than actual excess water, the immediate flood risk is lower, but the underlying fault should still be corrected before resuming normal use.
