GE Washer Error Code 8

Error code 8 on a GE washer means the control board detected a Pressure Sensor Loss condition. The machine found too great a difference between the actual pressure sensor reading and the expected reading based on how much water it calculated it had filled into the tub. This points to a problem with the pressure sensing hose, a clog or leak in that system, or water escaping from the tub.

A reset may temporarily clear the error code display, but the code will return if the underlying problem is not corrected. If the pressure hose is kinked or the air dome is clogged, the control will detect the same mismatch on the next fill cycle and trigger code 8 again. Fix the root cause before relying on a reset to resume normal operation.

Repair cost depends entirely on the root cause. If the problem is simply a pinched pressure hose, the fix costs nothing beyond your time. Replacing a damaged pressure hose typically runs in the range of $10 to $40 for the part. A new pressure sensor generally costs between $20 and $60 for the part, and if a water leak requires replacing a pump, door seal, or tub hose, total repair costs including parts and labor could range from $100 to $300 or more.

Start by inspecting the pressure tube where it passes through the top cover grommet, as this is the most common failure point and requires no parts to fix. Also check the full length of the hose for kinks, cracks, or disconnected fittings, and clear any debris from the hose or air dome port. If the hose and air dome are clear and intact, look for signs of water leaking from the tub, pump, or hoses inside the cabinet. If all these check out, the pressure sensor itself may need to be tested and potentially replaced.

It is not recommended to continue running the washer while code 8 is active. The machine stopped because it could not confirm the correct water level, which means it may run with too little or too much water. If the cause is a water leak, continuing to operate the machine could result in water damage to the floor or surrounding area.
