The E23 code on a GE washer means the machine has detected a fill problem and was unable to fill with water properly during the cycle. The washer monitors how long it takes to reach the required water level, and if that level is not reached in time, it stops and displays E23. The most common cause after ruling out supply and hose issues is a faulty solenoid valve assembly. Replacing the valve assembly is the recommended repair once all other fill checks have been completed.

It is not recommended to run the washer while the E23 code is active. The machine will not complete a cycle properly without an adequate water supply, and repeatedly forcing it to attempt fill cycles could strain other components. Address the underlying fill issue before running additional loads.
