The FA code on a Jenn-Air oven signals a communication error on the display board side of the control system. The oven uses two separate boards that must exchange data continuously, and this code appears when that communication link has broken down. The fault can stem from a problem in the J2 wiring harness connecting the two boards or from a failure within the display board itself.

Start by locating the J2 harness that connects the display board to the main control board and inspect it for loose connectors, bent pins, or visible wire damage. Reseat both ends of the connector and use a multimeter to ohm test each wire end to end for continuity. If all wires pass and connections are solid, the display board will need to be replaced to resolve the fault.

If the issue is simply a loose connector or a repairable harness wire, the cost can be minimal, primarily covering labor time for the diagnosis. A replacement J2 harness, if needed, typically runs in the range of $20 to $60 depending on the specific model. If the display board has failed, that part generally costs between $80 and $250, with total repair costs including labor ranging from $150 to $400 or more depending on your service provider.

A power reset by shutting off the circuit breaker for a few minutes may temporarily clear the FA code, but it will almost certainly return if the underlying cause is not addressed. The code reflects an active hardware fault in the wiring harness or display board, not a software glitch. A reset is useful for confirming the fault is persistent, but it is not a repair.

Operating the oven with an active FA error is not recommended. The communication failure between the display board and the main control board means the oven may not respond reliably to controls or may behave unpredictably.
