What F1-5 means on a Jenn-Air range
The F1-5 error code on a Jenn-Air range indicates that the cancel pad on the touchpad control panel is not responding. The cancel pad is part of the membrane keypad assembly, which communicates with the main control board through a ribbon cable. When the control board sends a signal to register input from the cancel pad and receives no valid response, it triggers this fault code to indicate a communication or hardware failure in that specific key zone.
The ribbon cable connecting the touchpad membrane to the control board is the most common point of failure. This flat, flexible cable can develop intermittent shorts, physical breaks along its length, or corrosion at either the membrane connector or the control board connector. Even a slight misalignment or loose seating at either end can interrupt the signal path for the cancel pad and generate the F1-5 code. Inspecting the full length of the ribbon cable for visible damage and firmly reseating both connectors is the required first diagnostic step.
If the ribbon cable and connectors are intact and properly seated, the fault likely points to either a failed touchpad membrane or a faulty control board. The cancel pad itself may have worn out internally, creating an open circuit in that key zone. Alternatively, the control board may have failed in a way that prevents it from correctly reading the cancel pad input. In either case, component replacement is required to resolve the fault.

Common causes of F1-5
- 01
Loose or improperly seated ribbon cable
Wiring / connectionThe flat ribbon cable connecting the touchpad to the control board may have shifted out of its connector at one or both ends. Firmly reseating both connectors often resolves the fault if no physical damage is present.
- 02
Damaged ribbon cable
Part replacementThe ribbon cable may have a visible break, kink, or internal short along its length. Inspect the full cable for any cracks, fraying, or pinch points that could interrupt the signal to the cancel pad.
- 03
Corrosion at ribbon cable connectors
Part replacementMoisture or grease exposure can cause corrosion at the ribbon cable connectors on either the touchpad or control board side, degrading the electrical contact for the cancel pad circuit.
- 04
Failed touchpad membrane
Part replacementThe membrane keypad itself may have worn out or failed internally at the cancel pad zone, creating an open circuit that the control board cannot read. If the cable checks out, the touchpad assembly requires replacement.
- 05
Faulty control board
Part replacementIf the ribbon cable and touchpad membrane both test acceptable, the control board may have failed and is unable to correctly read the cancel pad input signal. Control board replacement would be required.
