Ld stands for Long Drain on a Kenmore washer. It means the washer could not pump water down to the level needed to reset the operating pressure switch within 5 minutes. The control board stops the cycle and displays this code to indicate a problem with the drain system. Common causes include a clogged pump filter, a blocked drain hose, or a failing drain pump motor.

You should not continue running wash cycles while the Ld code is active, as the washer is not completing the drain phase properly. Running the machine with standing water in the tub can lead to mold and mildew growth and may place additional strain on the pump motor. Diagnose and resolve the drain issue before resuming normal use.

If the fix involves clearing a clogged pump filter or repositioning the drain hose, there may be no parts cost at all. If the drain pump motor needs to be replaced, parts alone typically range from $25 to $100 depending on the model, with professional labor adding another $75 to $200. Diagnosing and resolving the issue yourself can keep costs to a minimum if the problem is a simple blockage.
