The control has detected an open or interrupted circuit, which could involve a loose wiring connection, a failed regen valve solenoid, a blown fuse, or a fault on the control board's regen valve drive circuit. This code only appears on Maytag dishwasher models equipped with a built-in water softener.

The F6-E8 fault is specific to the water softener regeneration circuit and does not directly affect the core wash or drain functions. However, running the dishwasher with an unresolved electrical fault is not recommended, as the underlying wiring issue could potentially worsen. It is best to diagnose and repair the fault before resuming regular use.

Repair costs vary depending on which component has failed. A replacement regen valve solenoid or a fuse is relatively inexpensive, typically in the range of a few dollars to around thirty dollars for parts. A replacement control board is significantly more costly, often ranging from sixty to over two hundred dollars for the part alone. Adding professional labor charges will increase the total cost of any repair.

Some causes of F6-E8 are DIY-friendly. Start by unplugging the dishwasher, then inspect and reseat all wiring connections in the regen valve circuit. You can also test the regen valve solenoid and the circuit fuse with a multimeter for continuity. If those components test open, replacing them is a manageable repair. Control board replacement is more involved and may be better suited for a technician.

Resetting the dishwasher may temporarily clear the code from the display, but if the underlying electrical fault is still present, the code will return once the control attempts to operate the regen valve again. A reset is not a fix. The solenoid, wiring, and fuse need to be inspected and tested to resolve the fault permanently.
