E104 means the washer's weighing system detected a weight reading on one of its load cell sensors that exceeded the maximum limit of 1000 kg during the wash cycle. Because no realistic laundry load comes close to that value, this code almost always signals a sensor failure, a wiring problem, or a mechanical issue with the load cell assembly. The washer stops the cycle to prevent operating with inaccurate load data. This code only appears on Maytag models equipped with a built-in weighing system.

It is not recommended to continue running the washer while E104 is active. The weighing system is used to set water levels and cycle parameters, so operating with a faulty load cell could lead to incorrect cycle behavior. Address the fault before resuming normal use to avoid potential issues with wash performance or component stress.

A reset may temporarily clear the E104 code, but it will return if the underlying problem with the load cell, wiring, or mechanical components has not been resolved.
