Error code 01 on a Maytag washer indicates a long fill condition. The washer was unable to fill to the required water level within 6 minutes of continuous filling or 8 minutes of accumulated fill time during the cycle. The control board halts the cycle and displays this code to alert you to a problem with water supply or the fill system components.

It is not recommended to continue running the washer while this error is active. The machine halts the cycle when the code triggers, and attempting to restart without addressing the underlying fill problem can stress the motor and pump or result in an incomplete wash. Resolve the water supply issue before running another cycle.

Repair costs depend on the specific cause. Cleaning inlet screens costs nothing beyond your time. Replacing supply hoses typically runs between $10 and $30 in parts. A new water inlet valve generally costs between $30 and $80 for the part, with additional labor costs of $75 to $150 if a technician performs the replacement. If low household water pressure is the root cause, addressing that at the home plumbing level may involve a separate cost range entirely.

Start by confirming that both hot and cold water supply valves are fully open and that household water pressure meets the 20 PSI minimum. Next, disconnect the supply hoses from the back of the washer and inspect the small inlet screens for sediment or mineral buildup, cleaning them carefully if needed. If supply pressure and screens are in good condition, check the supply hoses for kinks, and test or replace the water inlet valve if the solenoid coils have failed.

Performing a reset may clear the code temporarily and allow the cycle to restart, but the fault will return if the underlying cause is not corrected. A reset alone does not fix low water pressure, clogged screens, or a failing inlet valve. Address the root cause first, then reset the machine to confirm the fault does not reappear.
