E25 on a Maytag washer means the control board detected a defective temperature sensor during standby mode. The control board performs a check on the sensor circuit before the cycle begins, and E25 appears when the signal is missing, shorted, or out of range. The fault is connected to the sensor's wiring connector at connector T on the control board. It does not necessarily mean the sensor itself has failed, as a loose connection can produce the same code.

Running the washer while the E25 error is active is not recommended. The temperature sensor monitors water temperature to prevent overheating, and operating without a reliable sensor reading could result in water that is too hot for certain fabrics or machine components. It is best to resolve the fault before resuming normal use.

Repair costs vary depending on which component is at fault. If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there is no parts cost involved.
