E216 indicates an MCU DIP switch setup error where the branch switch for a connected indoor unit is set to OFF instead of ON. The MCU uses these switches to identify which branch ports have active indoor units installed. When the switch does not match the physical connection, the MCU flags the conflict with E216. Correcting the DIP switch position to ON for the connected unit resolves the issue.

E216 is a configuration error rather than a safety-critical fault. It does not indicate an electrical short, refrigerant leak, or fire risk. However, the affected indoor unit may not operate correctly until the DIP switch is properly configured, so the system should not be left in this state long term.

If the fix only requires adjusting the DIP switch setting, the repair cost is typically limited to a service call fee, which generally ranges from $75 to $150 depending on your location and technician. If the MCU board itself is found to be faulty and needs replacement, parts and labor costs could range from $200 to $500 or more. Most E216 cases are resolved with a simple switch adjustment and do not require replacement parts.

Access the MCU board and locate the DIP switch bank for the branch ports. Identify which indoor unit is connected but has its corresponding switch in the OFF position, then toggle that switch to ON. Restart the system after making the correction to confirm the error clears and communication with the indoor unit is restored.

A simple power reset will not permanently clear E216 because the underlying DIP switch configuration remains incorrect. The error will return after restart until the branch DIP switch for the connected indoor unit is physically set to ON on the MCU board. Only correcting the switch setting will resolve the fault.
