The code can be triggered either by genuinely high outdoor temperatures or by a faulty outdoor temperature sensor reporting an incorrect reading.

P431 is a product protection code, not a safety hazard in the traditional sense. The system is preventing operation in heating mode under conditions outside its design range, which protects the compressor and refrigeration components from excessive stress. It does not indicate a refrigerant leak, electrical fault, or fire risk.

If the cause is simply high outdoor ambient temperature, there is no repair cost at all since the code is self-clearing.
