The AC error code means communication between the main PBA and the sub PBA is abnormal or has been lost. These are the two primary control boards in the dishwasher. When this fault is active, functions like the buzzer and drain operation will not work. The error can clear on its own if communication is restored.

Start by checking that the wiring harness connectors between the main PBA and sub PBA are fully seated and free of damage or corrosion. If the connectors are secure and the wiring looks intact, the next step is to replace the sub PBA, followed by the main PBA if the error persists. A power cycle is worth trying first, as the error can recover on its own if communication returns to normal.

If only the wiring harness or a connector needs attention, the repair cost is minimal, mostly just labor if you hire a technician. If a control board needs replacement, parts alone can range from roughly $50 to $200 or more depending on which board is faulty, with additional labor costs if you use a repair service. Getting a diagnosis before ordering parts helps avoid replacing both boards unnecessarily.

A power reset can clear the AC error if the communication disruption was temporary, such as a brief voltage irregularity or a connector that is only slightly loose. Unplug the dishwasher or turn off the circuit breaker for a few minutes, then restore power. If the error returns immediately, there is likely a physical wiring or board fault that needs hands-on diagnosis.

The AC error is not a safety hazard in the way that a water leak or electrical short would be. However, the dishwasher will not drain while in this error state, which means you should avoid running a wash cycle until the fault is resolved.
