Samsung Heat Pump Error Code E482

E482 indicates an indoor unit Electronic Expansion Valve open error that has been detected a second time, meaning refrigerant is flowing into an indoor unit that is in the stopped state. The EEV is supposed to close completely when that indoor unit is not calling for heating or cooling. Samsung's diagnostic process starts with checking the EEV wiring connection at the indoor PCB and confirming the EEV coil is fully and correctly seated on the valve body.

Continuing to operate the system with an active E482 fault is not recommended. Refrigerant migrating into a stopped indoor unit can cause liquid refrigerant to return to the compressor, which can damage the compressor's internal components over time. The system should be inspected and the fault resolved before resuming normal operation to avoid escalating repair costs.

If the fix is simply reseating the EEV wiring connector or repositioning the coil, labor costs alone may apply, typically in the range of $75 to $150 for a service call. If the EEV coil requires replacement, parts and labor combined generally fall in the $150 to $350 range. A failed valve body or indoor PCB replacement can push costs higher, often between $300 and $700 or more depending on the specific unit model and part availability.

A knowledgeable DIYer can safely inspect the EEV wiring connector at the indoor unit PCB and verify the EEV coil is fully seated on the valve body, since these checks do not involve opening refrigerant lines. However, if the coil, valve body, or PCB needs replacement, a licensed HVAC technician is strongly recommended, particularly because any refrigerant-side work legally requires EPA 608 certification. Attempting repairs beyond visual and wiring checks without proper training risks refrigerant exposure and further system damage.

A power reset may temporarily clear the E482 code, but since it is flagged as a second-detection fault, the underlying condition causing the EEV to remain open is almost certainly still present. The code will return once the system runs through another diagnostic cycle and detects the same condition. A reset alone is not a repair and should not be relied upon as a fix.
