The C1-1411 code means the printer cannot detect a properly installed toner cartridge. The printer's internal sensor checks for a physical and electrical connection with the cartridge each time it starts up. If that connection is absent or interrupted, the machine stops and displays this code. The issue is often caused by a cartridge that is not fully seated rather than one that is actually missing.

The printer will not allow you to print while this error is active, which is intentional. Attempting to force operation without a detected cartridge could result in damage to the print drum or fuser assembly. Resolve the cartridge detection issue before attempting any print jobs.

If the fix is as simple as reseating the cartridge, there is no cost at all. Replacing a depleted or damaged toner cartridge typically costs anywhere from $20 to $80 or more depending on the cartridge model and yield. If an internal detection sensor requires professional repair or replacement, service costs can range from $75 to $200 depending on the technician and parts availability.

Start by turning the printer off and unplugging it for a moment. Remove the toner cartridge and gently roll or rock it five or six times to redistribute the toner powder evenly. Then reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into its locked position and power the printer back on. If the error continues, inspect the contacts on the cartridge and inside the bay for dirt or damage, and consider replacing the cartridge if it is old or depleted.

A power cycle, which involves turning the machine off and back on, is the recommended first step and can clear the error if the cartridge simply lost connection during operation.
