A power cycle or soft reset may temporarily clear the error code, but it will return if the underlying cause has not been resolved. If a physical jam was the only issue and it has been fully removed, a reset should restore normal operation. Persistent recurrence after resetting points to a hardware problem such as worn rollers, a faulty sensor, or a drive unit issue that requires physical inspection and repair.

If the fix is simply removing a jammed document and reseating a connector, there is no parts cost involved. Replacing ADF feed rollers and a separation pad typically costs between $15 and $50 in parts depending on the specific printer model. If the ADF drive unit assembly itself has failed and requires replacement, parts and labor costs can range from $80 to $200 or more, at which point comparing repair cost to printer replacement value is advisable.

The printer's copy and scan functions that rely on the ADF will be unavailable until the jam is cleared. You can typically still print from the main paper tray while the ADF issue is being addressed.
