Samsung Refrigerator Error Code 1C

Error code 1C on a Samsung refrigerator indicates a freezer temperature sensor fault. The main PCB has detected a reading outside the valid range, specifically above +50°C or below -50°C, or has found the sensor circuit to be open or shorted. It can also be triggered by the sensor physically separating from its housing or losing electrical contact at the connector. The refrigerator cannot accurately control freezer temperature until this fault is resolved.

A power reset may temporarily clear the 1C display, but the code will return if the underlying sensor fault is still present. The main PCB will re-evaluate the freezer sensor circuit after power is restored and will redisplay 1C if the voltage at CN30 is still out of the 1.0V to 4.5V range. A reset is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent, but it does not fix a failed sensor, broken wire, or loose connector.

Repair cost depends on the root cause. If only a connector needs reseating, there is no parts cost. A replacement freezer thermistor typically costs in the range of $10 to $40 for the part alone. If the main PCB itself is faulty and causing incorrect voltage at CN30, board replacement can run $100 to $300 or more for the part. Adding a professional technician's labor generally brings the total service cost to somewhere between $100 and $350 depending on location and diagnosis time.

Some causes of the 1C error are DIY-friendly. Reseating a loose connector at CN30 on the main PCB or pushing the sensor back into its mounting clip requires no special tools. If the wiring is damaged or the thermistor has failed, replacing these parts is also manageable for someone comfortable with basic appliance repair. Use a multimeter to check the voltage at CN30 pins 1 and 3 first, since that reading will guide you toward the correct repair.

Operating the refrigerator with an active 1C error is not recommended for extended periods. Without a functioning freezer sensor, the control board cannot reliably regulate the compressor and fans for the freezer compartment, which means food safety temperatures may not be maintained. Perishable and frozen items could be at risk. It is best to address the fault promptly or transfer frozen goods to another unit in the meantime.
