Samsung Refrigerator Error Code 21C

The 21C code indicates a freezer fan motor error. It can be caused by a contact fault on the feedback signal line, a separated motor wire, or a motor that has stopped functioning while the refrigerator expected it to be running. The main control board detects this condition by monitoring the fan circuit at connector CN74.

It is not advisable to continue using the refrigerator normally when the 21C error is active. Without a functioning freezer fan, cold air cannot circulate properly, and temperatures in both the freezer and fresh food compartments may rise to unsafe levels. Perishable food should be moved to an alternate cooler until the fault is resolved.

Repair costs depend on the root cause. If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector or clearing an ice blockage, there may be little to no parts cost involved. Replacing the freezer fan motor typically runs between $80 and $200 for the part, plus labor if a technician is involved. If the main PCB requires replacement, costs can range from $150 to $400 or more depending on the model.

Some causes of the 21C error are DIY-friendly. You can inspect the wiring harness for loose connectors, check for ice blocking the fan blade, and reseat connections at the main PCB. However, testing voltage at PCB connector CN74 pins 1 and 4 requires a multimeter and some comfort working near live circuits, so if you are not experienced with this type of work, a technician is recommended.

A reset may temporarily clear the 21C error code from the display, but it will return if the underlying cause is not repaired. Resetting does not fix a broken wire, a failed motor, or a bad board connection. It can be useful to confirm whether the fault is intermittent, but it is not a lasting solution.
