The 2C error code indicates a fridge compartment sensor fault. The main PCB has detected a problem with the temperature sensor circuit, which can include a loose sensor, poor connector contact, a broken wire, a short-circuit, or a failed thermistor. The control board uses the voltage at connector CN30 pins 1 and 5 to evaluate sensor health, expecting a reading within 4.5V to 1.0V depending on compartment temperature.

A power reset may temporarily clear the 2C code, but if the underlying sensor circuit problem is still present, the error will return once the board re-evaluates the sensor signal. A reset is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent, but it does not repair a failed thermistor, broken wire, or loose connector. The root cause must be corrected for the error to stay cleared.

If the fix is simply reseating a connector or repositioning the sensor in its housing, there is no parts cost. A replacement fridge thermistor typically falls in the range of $10 to $40 for the part alone. If professional labor is needed, total repair costs generally range from $80 to $200 depending on the technician's rates and the time required to diagnose and access the sensor. A main PCB replacement, if ultimately needed, will cost considerably more.

Some causes of the 2C error are DIY-accessible. Checking that the sensor is seated in its housing, reseating the wiring harness connectors, and inspecting the wire run for obvious damage are all tasks a careful homeowner can perform. Replacing the thermistor is also a straightforward job once the faulty component is confirmed. Voltage testing at CN30 requires a multimeter and basic familiarity with reading live circuits, so technician involvement is advisable if you are not comfortable with that step.

A 2C fault means the control board cannot reliably read the fridge compartment temperature, so it may not regulate cooling correctly. Food safety can be at risk if the compartment runs too warm without the board detecting it. It is best to address the error promptly, and in the meantime, use a standalone thermometer inside the fridge to monitor the actual temperature.
